We’ve done a quick analysis over the Irish social media landscape in relation to the football World Cup 2010. The idea was to extract a few insights based on the past 30 days, to see how we are preparing for Friday’s kick off here in Ireland.
I made a quick video, focusing on the buzz around the keyword “world cup” and its synonyms, and also trying to determine how much is Thierry Henry and France being mentioned by the Irish fans (and the sentiment of those mentions).
Takeaways:
- Buzz has increased (naturally of course approaching the day) from 30 days to this part. However, there are continuous highs and lows. I think the growth would have been steady, had Ireland made it to the World Cup.
- Conversations in relation to France account for about 5% of the total analysed. This may mean that the majority of the people have gotten over Thierry Henry’s handgoal; or simply the thing is a bit dormant at this stage. If France were a brand though, they should still pay close attention to this; you never know when these things can pick up again. In fact, I’d even say that if France perform quite well, this 5% will definitely rise and with a bad sentiment within the Irish web too.
- Tags and conversations: Most of the conversations naturally revolve around subjects intrinsic to the game/ tournament (e.g. injuries, fixtures, stadiums, tickets, etc). However, we were surprised to detect conversations mentioning the “office“. In fact, most of the people mention sweepstakes and internal betting. There is a bit of gambling going on in offices! I guess employers can expect changes in productivity this month. Maybe for the good, since people may be so motivated to watch a match that can get things done in half the time?
Have a look at the quick video to learn more about social media monitoring exercise.
How do you think conversations will look like during the World Cup?
